No Show Site is Perfect
We enjoyed our time at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds in Chesaning, but the weather on our show weekend in 2024 revealed a fatal flaw in the main exhibit hall. Water accumulated on the floor overnight and by Sunday morning, it had rendered one ring unusable, and the problem was spreading. Several exhibitors slipped and fell and due to safety concerns, rings were moved outside for groups. The AKC rep advised us we would not be able to use this site for future shows due to these safety concerns.
Shiawassee County Fairgrounds
The Genessee Couty Kennel Club had been holding its shows at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds, in Corunna, just a bit south of Chesaning, for years. We had not considered this site in the past because we didn’t want to have any of our rings outside in late April. In 2024 the fairgrounds completed a large indoor building in 2024 that would enable us to have all our rings indoors and also offered a larger, more convenient area for indoor grooming.
This site also includes a number of outbuildings that were suitable for our scent work trials. Because the search areas are well beyond the main parking area and grooming building, we are hoping this will minimize the inadvertent intrusion of conformation exhibitors into the dedicated scent work areas.
